One of my principal goals as an artist is to capture and communicate intuitive responses to a subject, carefully and sensitively, whether I am working from a model, landscape or still life. Successful work conveys not only the reality that the artist confronts but the very personal reaction that is inspired by that reality. I try to capture the vitality of the subject, the color and contrasts of the light and the specific mood of what I am observing. Recently I have begun a series of carefully drawn graphite drawings of discarded objects found along the road. Nature seems to be watching us as we destroy our environment, and I hope these drawings will help us recognize what we are doing.
