I tend to mix metaphors.

The curlicue of a serif or the swash of a calligraphic letter are layered in the backgrounds of my works, forming connective tissues that bind parts together. Sometimes, words are legible, sometimes messages are non-sequiturs, sometimes titles are near-miss translations from Chinese. Sometimes there are no words, but connections are forced between disparate parts through color and texture. I try to make connections between what I don't understand through the language of Art.

The papers I use come from Korea, Thailand, Vietnam, the U.S. and Taiwan; places I have lived in or visited during the past several years. By combining papers from Asia with images of America or paper from the U. S. with images from Asia, I try to connect the dots of my travels with my trips back home. My observations about the enigmatically exotic lands of the East and the frustratingly beautiful country that is my own provide the inspiration for my work.
